Social Justice Consultants, LLC is promoting “POSITIVE VOICES: A Personal Journey of Living with HIV” to Colleges & Universities
September 9, 2009 - Washington, DC. According to the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC) 2006 Surveillance Report, the 15-19 and 20-24 age groups were among eight age groups with increases in HIV cases. Blacks accounted for 49% of all HIV new cases in 2006. Since we know that college students are in the midst of their sexual identity development, open dialogue about sexuality and HIV prevention are essential on college campuses. Is this an issue that your campus addresses on a regular basis? If not, this presentation is designed to create dialogue and encourage HIV prevention.
As the CEO of Social Justice Consultants LLC, a former CEO of the largest HIV/AIDS organization in the Virgin Islands, and director of various campus diversity programs; Smail is very concerned about reaching our youth and providing open dialogue that respect and value their personal development. When we share our stories, we touch many hearts and create empathy for one’s struggle. From the first reactive HIV test on February 10, 2003 and an HIV confirmation fifteen days later, the life of Bruce E. Smail changed dramatically. His story is one of acceptance, accountability, positive energies, and new opportunities. This moving and honest sharing of his personal life followed by an open dialogue on HIV prevention and transmission issues will open minds about HIV and its risks. This timely presentation is designed to encourage honest personal assessment of risky behaviors and develop effective prevention strategies. The reality of HIV/AIDS impacts everyone and this is an opportunity to hear the voice of a person of color living with HIV.

July 28, 2009 - Washington, DC. Social Justice Consultants, LLC is an official limited liability company in the District of Columbia. Today, the agency was informed by LegalZoom.com that the District of Columbia has accepted the article of incorportation on July 24, 2009. Its the birth of a new consulting agency. This is exciting news as the organization moves forward with its plans to address social justice, diversity, HIV/AIDS and LGBTQ issues.

Smail will share his thoughts about the late Dr. Leonard Bates. Bates was a fellow graduate student at Indiana University and was an HIV/AIDS researcher focused on MSM (men who have sex with men) of color. He died in 2004. He will also discuss HIV/AIDS and MSM issues in the Black community.
